Who’s your ideal customer?
Your typical customer buys what they need, but your ideal customer buys what they want. When you get the difference between the two, it can mean huge dollars to your bottom line. That’s because people buy what they want and will pay handsomely for it because they can go anywhere to get what they need. If somebody just needs a cup of coffee, or a smoothie, they can make that at home or buy a cheap one on the road, like 7-11 or McDonald’s. But people pay handsomely for what they want.
Good communication is just as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after.
I was able to really leverage my profitability by getting clear on who my ideal customer was. They didn’t want just a coffee or a smoothie, they wanted an experience. My ideal customer was someone who loved Hawaii, may or may not have been there, but wanted that experience. So I didn’t offer just a coffee or a smoothie, I gave them a vacation in a cup. And by doing so, they paid me handsomely because it was no longer a commodity. It wasn’t something they needed, it was something they wanted.
